International Horizon Scanning and Learning to Inform Wales’ COVID-19 Public Health Response and Recovery – 22 April 2021

The International Horizon Scanning and Learning work stream was initiated as a product of, and to inform upon, the evolving COVID-19 public health response and recovery plans in Wales. It focuses on COVID-19 international evidence, experience, measures and transition/recovery approaches, to understand and explore solutions for addressing the on-going and emerging health, wellbeing, social and economic impacts (potential harms and benefits).

Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs) training and Trauma Awareness Training (TAT): national roll out to members of Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) across Wales.

This report examines the rollout of the Criminal Justice ACEs training packages and Trauma Awareness Training to prison and probation staff in Wales.

Welsh Health Equity Status Report – WHESRi

This report aims to help inform and support a sustainable response and recovery from Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wales, placing health equity at its heart.
It reinforces our understanding of how interdependent individual and societal well-being, and the wider economy are, towards achieving prosperity for all. The report also contributes to strengthening the leading role of Wales at the forefront of the health equity and sustainable development agenda in Europe and globally.

The annual costs of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in Wales

An infographic highlighting the annual costs of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in Wales. ACEs increase individuals’ risks of adopting health-harming behaviours and developing ill health. ACE survey data was used to calculate the proportion of key health risk behaviours and health conditions attributable to ACEs and estimate the associated annual costs to Wales.

Understanding non-emergency and non-deployed demand to North Wales Police: An observational study of the Joint Communications Centre

As part of the Early Action Together (EAT) programme, North Wales Police (NWP) pursued the opportunity to design a research study with the EAT research team, to gather initial evidence on non-emergency and nondeployed calls, to further inform decisions on how best to address these calls to support vulnerable individuals through multi-agency working arrangements. This study was a priority for NWP to outline evidence-based areas for consideration; to help shape recommendations for early intervention targeting vulnerable callers and reduce future demand.

Adverse Childhood Experience Trauma Informed Multi-agency Early Action Together (ACE TIME) training: A 15-month police and partners follow-up

This report is based on a follow-up evaluation with ACE TIME training participants. It sets out to find whether the positive changes identified in the initial ACE TIME training evaluation were sustained at nine to fifteen months after attending the training.

Police perspectives on the impact of the Adverse Childhood Experience Trauma Informed Multi-Agency Early Action Together (ACE TIME) training across Wales

This report looks in depth at the experience of police during a national programme of transformation and cultural change. The report consists of interviews with police officers and staff who received the ACE TIME Training. It examines their perspectives on the impact of the training on their knowledge and practice and their attitudes towards the ACE Coordinator service who delivered the training and ongoing support to operational policing.

Understanding the Impact of COVID-19 on Violence and ACEs Experienced by Children and Young People in Wales Interim Report

This report explores the impact of COVID-19 and the associated health protection measures on children and young people through a review of the available literature and analysis of multi-agency data. It captures the inequitable and long-term impact that the pandemic could have on children and young people, and highlights considerations for mitigating these negative consequences.

Adverse childhood experiences during childhood and academic attainment at age 7 and 11 years: an electronic birth cohort study

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have a negative impact on childhood health, but their impact on education outcomes is less well known. We investigated whether or not ACEs were associated with reduced educational attainment at age 7 and 11 years.

Cycles of violence in England and Wales: the contribution of childhood abuse to risk of violence revictimisation in adulthood
