This page provides information on the various different training courses offered by WHIASU.

WHIASU delivers both training and capacity building and this forms part of the support provided by WHIASU to increase the understanding of, and practice in, Health Impact Assessment (HIA) across all sectors.

This support involves mentoring, awareness sessions, bespoke development sessions for individual organisations and teams and a range of informal and formal training sessions. Additional learning is supported by a range of resources, guides and evidence briefings available via this site. WHIASU’s training is continually updated and reviewed and new training packages are being developed to ensure it remains relevant in the context of current national and local policy and meets the needs of public health and our partners.

As well as delivering a range of face-to-face sessions, the Unit has also developed an interactive online E-learning course in collaboration with Cardiff Metropolitan University. The E-learning course is free to access and available internationally.

WHIASU can offer mentoring for those who have completed HIA training or wish to apply HIA methodology practically within their work and processes. This will extend individuals’ knowledge and understanding through ‘learning by doing’ but with an element of advice, guidance and support. Contact WHIASU to discuss your ideas.

The Wales Health Impact Assessment Support Unit have published a framework for training and capacity building in HIA. The technical report sets out an underpinning framework for the WHIASU’s approach to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of training and capacity building for HIA over the next five years.
