Statutory Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) for Public Bodies – An Introduction to the HIA Process
This training is focused upon raising awareness of the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Wales Regulations 2025 that come into force 6th April 2027.
These sessions will provide:
- A basic overview of HIA
- An overview of the Regulations and what they mean for Public Bodies
- Details on how the regulations relate to the steps of the HIA process
- Benefits of HIA
Sessions will also include built in Q&A time to offer an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. These sessions can help to provide a basic understanding of the regulations to be built upon in further training sessions.

This session will equip attendees with an understanding of the HIA methodology and ensure they are well-prepared for the HIA regulations.
The session will cover:
- Overview of HIA
- Regulations requirements relating the steps in the HIA process
- Benefits of HIA
- Case study example
- An opportunity to apply the learning through a practical activity (Participatory HIA workshop)
Audience: Representatives from public bodies in Wales who are new to HIA and/or those with a basic understanding of HIA, who wish to learn more about HIA and have a go at one step of the HIA process.

This session will equip practitioners with an understanding of the HIA methodology and knowledge of the recourses and tools available to support its application in their work.
The session will cover:

- The HIA process
- Benefits of HIA
- Case study example
- An opportunity to apply the learning through a practical activity (Participatory HIA workshop)
Audience: Those who are new to HIA and/or those with a basic understanding of HIA, who wish to learn more about HIA best practice and have a go at one step of the HIA process.
