Zuwaira joined PHW as an International Health Coordinator in 2023. She has had previous experience working with International Non-Profit Organisations on Public Health advocacy and research. She has previously worked in various Programme Management roles in Bill and Melinda Gates Funded Non-Profit Organisations in Nigeria. She worked with the development Research and Project Centre, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development and the West African Institute of Public Health.
She has also worked as Public Health Journalist and Fact-checker with Nigerian media houses including Premium Times, Dubawa and Dataphyte. As well, she has worked as a research assistant with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council producing a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, of cancer needs in the Sheffield population.
She is the recipient of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship by the European Commission and graduated from the double degree masters programme European Public Health and obtained a BSc and MPH from the University of Sheffield and an MSc from Maastricht University. She is committed to advancing public health initiatives and promoting health equity and health systems strengthening, through the production of evidence-based research, strategic planning and effective collaboration. She enjoys travelling, photography, listening to afrobeats and watching anime in her free time.
